Ten years ago I left Santa Cruz for a relationship and ended up in the Rocky Mountains. They say that once people come to Colorado they never leave. After almost a decade here I understand the appeal with its crisp blue skies, stunning peak views, wide open spaces and mountain friendly folk. I have tried to leave over the years, even took a 6-month road trip up the Pacific coast in search of our new home and where did we end up? Back in Colorado!
Over the years since our departure from Santa Cruz, we have visited a few times and each time we have dreamed of moving back. We find reasons why not-it's too expensive, too crowded, too hard to get a job but once we hit the beach with a burrito from Vallarta's and a chai from the Bagelry we are hooked and can't imagine making the trip back to Colorado. Yes it's too expensive, too crowded and hard to get a job but nobody's perfect right? We've lived in affordable places that aren't crowded and didn't feel at home like we do in Santa Cruz.
So the moving truck is reserved, new lease is signed, yoga mats are packed and it feels like we are really leaving Colorado this time! We will miss these rocky peaks, aspen groves, dear friends and the many amazing connections we've made here. We love you Colorado! We'll be back...but just to visit!
p.s.
Turns out it was a good move for me to leave Santa Cruz for the relationship! We're still together, married, and looking forward to celebrating our 5-year anniversary this September in Santa Cruz!
